National Pretzel Day. Today.

Do you eat a pound and a half of pretzels a year? You don't? Then you're not average.
I'm not average either, although I did enjoy a small handful of gluten-free pretzels just yesterday, with some cream of asparagus soup.
I like salt, but not mouthfuls of it. It's hard to eat salty snacks without overdoing the sodium chloride, so I avoid them for the most part. I will binge on kettle potato chips (unflavored, thank you) once in a while. Love them. But that's my salty limit, and I spend the rest of the month atoning. I like corn chips, too, but we make our own at home from fresh tortillas, baked and unsalted. Good with guacamole.
Pretzels, though. Eh. Now and then.
Happy Day.
(Oh, that dude? He's the founder of Walkenbach's Pretzels. Can't really find him online, but the picture was from Google Images.)
AND. Just last night I watched an Iron Chef where one of the dishes was pretzel spaetzle. Mit bier, not to drink, but as part of the liquid ingredients. Ach.

When I was younger, I loved hot pretzels with mustard or even pretzel snacks. But I can't eat them now - they are too salty and if I manged to get some down, they sit on my stomach like lead. Ah and ptooi! I like the wisdom that comes with getting older (and more creative and more talented and more talkative heheheh) but Le Digestion is now what she used to be. Alas.

Happy prezel day to you too. I like pretzels but it doesn't really occur to me to buy them or eat them. But, that doesn't mean I can't support them having their own special day.

I only like the tiny pretzels they serve on airplanes - so cute.

I hated pretzels until Dubya almost died eating one. Now I like them a little bit.

It may have been years since I ate a pretzel, Kettle Chips, on the other hand, I scarfed a whole packet just last week - work related emergency :)

When I first left home I moved in with friends and we had no idea how to budget. We spent our money on clothes and concerts and ran out of grocery money long before payday.

But, I used to voluntarily do relexology for some older ones and one woman would always give me a bottle of red wine and a huge bag of pretzels. So, we'd have pretzels with mustard, with thousand island dressing...

It's so nice now to have pretzels as an occasional SNACK...not dinner! Tee Hee...

I love pretzels dipped in Beaver sweet-hot mustard. But I also am a fan of salt. Your taste buds are supposed to perceive it less as you get older, so maybe years and years from now you'll be less sensitive to it.

I had a soft pretzel at a hockey game, and it was way too salty. I guess I'm just not as much of a pretzel person as I used to be.

Nancy: I can handle salt, gastrically (for now, at least), but I don't want too much, dietarily. Alas.

Dog: Happy PD!

Zoomie: Oh, they still have tiny pretzels on planes? How much do they cost? :D

Mama Bean: Wow. Sounds like a really fun indulgence, especially with the dips.

Peter: You win.

Mouse: I actually think there are some Kettle chips in my house. Unmolested. The pretzels are here because we found a decent gluten-free brand, and thought we ought to have them around for... ???

Shine: That woman saved your lives! Pretzels and wine, not too shabby.

Spiteful: Beaver mustard! Yeah. I'm not sensitive to salt, I just want to keep my intake to around a teaspoon a day.

Melanie: Then you are excused. No more for you. (And that is good.)

Greg: Does it count? Not only does it count, but you can trot them out again on National Peanut Butter Day.

Eh. My husband says that any amount of salt is fine for people with healthy kidneys and hearts, provided you drink enough water to flush it out of your system.

I tend to listen to his advice when it's what I want to hear...

Spiteful: That's very cool! Tell your husband I owe him a chicken.

I swear, I thought it was a snake around the guys' neck!

I like pretzels, but am not crazy about them - however, when I came to the US for the first time, age 26, I had a soft pretzel in a rock concert close to the Golden Bridge in SF and I thought I had died and gone to heaven..... unforgettable experience! I never found any other as tasty as my first...

oh, well...
