It Was Either This or Gazpacho

This time of year, I don't know if I should be eating warm-weather food or cool-weather food.
It's still a little warm in my neck of the woods, but it's decidedly cooling off.
So here's this amphibious dish: Minestrone. It's a hot soup, but it's made with summer produce, much of it backyard-grown.
Worked just fine for me.
Roasted tomato chunks
Zucchini pieces
Onion bits
Mild green pepper squares
Great Northern beans
Vegetable stock
Non-local pastina (bonus: star-shaped)
Herbs, salt, yadda
Cook, sprinkle with parm-redge, eat.

Know what you mean about being unsure of the season these days - warm one day, chill the next. At least we get variety in our diet!

I've given up trying to figure out the weather and just eat whatever I'm in the mood for.

Ah, you used stellini!
I used to cook them for my babies -- and I still love the whimsy they give to a soup.

And remember: you can eat minestrone at room temp, like the Eye-talians, if the day heats up.

lovely - really just beautiful. i especially liked the non-local pasta because it proves to me that you are in fact a real live person.

ps - my chicken feet were like totally local

Zoomie: Variety, yes, but there is that ineluctible need to eke out the last of the summer garden. And we get to eat it!!

Dagny: I'm with you. There's no predicting, so just wing it.

Kudzu: Stellini. Thanks for the name. Isn't it fun to eat cute food?
BTW, it had never occurred to me to eat minestrone at room temp. OMG. Thank you.

Claudia: Yep, me real. Sometimes a cheater. And... Chicken feet? My chicken supplier has stopped supplying chicken feet! Ooh. Lucky you.

The lil' star pasta is so full of cuteness, I'd swear Hello Kitty made that soup.

Heather: Yes! Hello Kitty *did* make this soup!

Sam: I know. Isn't that delightfully trashy? I learned it from Heather, who is a great cook at Gild the (Voodoo)lily. She describes herself as "Zealously overcompensating for white-trash roots."

Greg: I want more today. Sigh.

I like the little one in the middle, who, like any self-respecting star in front of a camera, climbed into the center of the frame.

Peter: And then I named her Sarah and ate her.
