Just on this side of that there nandina hedge, you can almost make out Cranky, Bean Sprout and me enjoying another el fishco meal al fresco.
Despite the hefty cash-only pricetag, I'm really enjoying meals there. A few bucks for a vegetarian meal of coleslaw and a plate of fries doesn't hurt much most days, and every now and then a little splurge for piscine protein happily happens.
Surroundings are just right: picnic tables, boats, birds, dogs. Clientele is yuppies, sailors, bums like me.
Today's lunch was fish and chips. The fish — perfectly unidentifiable white fillet, tender and moist — is encased in batter that forms lava-lamp shapes once it's dropped into the deep fryer. The chips are hand-cut wedges (skin on) that become — er, well, tender and moist, just like the fish, in that fryer. Altogether perfect with a sploosh of malt vinegar.
Except that now, a few hours later, I'm still enjoying the esophageal flavor of "remembered" fried grease.
I don't blame the restaurant. I really am that delicate a digester.
Hey! Did Bush do anything really stupid today? Probably, but I'm just not seeing it in the news.
What a great day.

when i noticed bush ranting about something on tv today, I turned off my ears.
yeah, I think he does evey day. he is looking kinda beat though.... hope he's not losing sleep over the huge mess he's lead the entire world into....I'm mad too!
CC,
Fish and chips are one of those things that seem so simple and yet are so hard to really get right.
As for Bush, I'd like to semm him battered by about six big men and then run through a chipper. Wait, did I say that??
Oh, that's right, Sam and Stacie, he was lying to the NAACP yesterday... I tuned that out too.
Jennifer: It was my first fish and chips (I'm not the type either) and soo good. Yes it's busy; go after the lunch rush!
Kevin: Perfectly put, and no NSA dossier on you.
The "esophogal flavor"? I'm going to spend the rest of the day trying to forget that.
Well, I guess I AM a fish-n-chips person because every time I'm there I think I'll order something else but the fried beauties get me. Friends like the salmon sandwich and I once did have a crab Louis, but it's the classic fish shack treat that wins me over.
Kudzu: After Cranky ordered F&C earlier this week, I was blown away by the beautiful, tender fish, so I had a plate for myself yesterday, and I'm afraid I may be a convert.
So, KathyF, no more ruminations on eructations, eh?
*sigh* After years of Bush ignoring the NAACP conference, I keep wondering why they allow him to show up now. And unfortunately the only person who I know is at the conference probably would not make me happy by heckling him.
Mmmm. Fish and chips. I had some on Sunday. One of the best things in the world.
I don't know if he did anything stupid on Thursday, but on Wednesday he groped one of his fellow leaders of the free world. The video of her cringing was on the Daily Show and is on the internet. Just another example of his stellar judgment.
Let's see, well he decided to veto the stem-cell research bill cause it's just not acceptable go round killing blastocytes in fertility clinics in order to save the lives of seriously ill children and adults - in fact according to George it's murder to save lives using these embryos that will never be implanted in any womb - yet on the other hand he has decided that pretty much any level of civilian casualties are okay in Lebanon, just like it's okay for 100 innocents per day to die in Iraq, so long as it advances the Bush agenda of spreading democracy (everywhere but here of course) and fighting terrism. That's about it for today, I think.
Alice Q: Was that sicko or WHAT? I couldn't believe the blatant weirdness of his behavior. She should have had him eliminated, I'm just sayin'...
Dagny and JohnG: Gahhh. I know. I know.
a male colleague did that to me at work once and I swear, if it had happened more than a few weeks after I had arrived in the US, and I had understood the harrassment laws, I would have sued his pants off. Especially since afterwards he suggested I join him and his wife in his hot tub (adding thereafter that they liked to bathe naked). Ewww that guy was horrrible and slimy. Just like someone else we have been talking about.
my icky old boss did it to me in the UK as well and I turned round and shouted "get your F***ing hands off me" and he looked pretty scared as he slunk away.
