Summer on a Plate

Yeah, another stuffed pepper. A staple around here. But there was a special, secret ingredient mixed in with the cheese and black beans. Left-over Rice-A-Roni. I know! How divine. Ever so good.
OK, what I really wanted to talk about is the food in the little monkey dish (I love the monkey dishes!). It's a perfect summer salad made from corn, slightly cooked and stripped from the cob. Diced cantaloupe. Minced jalapeño. A little salt. That's it. Perfect. Not outstandingly amazing, but perfect.
Who needs tomatoes? (I jest, I jest.)

We're all over the corn here too, including making the caramelized corn you posted about last year (I think have even written my own blog post about it). Poblanos are on my radar too... but the plan is in a potato salad (side to something yet to be concocted...)

Little Pots: Corn, corn, corn. Bring it on. We are this close to caramelizing some.
I totally want to hear about your potato salad. Today we had chicken salad! So retro.

The corn salad sounds wonderful. In a particularly rare political moment for me. Why is the country run by a bunch of silly old men in expensive suits?

Kudzu: Mi too! I loved the purity of this food.

Greg: Well, I suspect it's because us hippies haven't been monitoring the situation, while the suits inflict their irrationality. Get out the vote!

I'm glad that clarified that comment about tomatoes. For a minute there, you had me worried. I've eaten some glorious corn this season, simply grilled and then, a sprinkle of Kosher salt and a squeeze of lemon.
As for the suits - I know where I'd like to put the corncob but politeness dictates that I not pollute your blogsphere with rude comments.

Have you ever tried melons and feta cheese? Very Turkish and very delicious when the melons are ripe. Add some hot pita bread (can you eat it?) yogurt with a drizzle of honey and you can be transported to Mediterranean bliss. Or Northern California bliss if you prefer.

Mm, I really do like the sound of tha little cantaloup salad. Perfect for hot days! If only it were a hot day.

Nancy: Lemon on corn sounds great! Never tried that.
I also love your melon with feta. Today we had melon with another cheese. Post coming soon.
(I can eat pita. I should learn to bake it.)

Dog: Aw, poor you. I returned from a trip to Monterey recently, and as soon as we drove through the tunnel north of the bridge, the whole sky cleared up. Blazing blue, and warm. Why I live here. xoxo
