Better Than a Lump of Coal

Of course I ate it.
I understand this chocolate bar was introduced in England to appeal to manly men. Seems all the confections for sale before this macho lump was invented were too pink, fluffy and princessy. They'd never try those. They'd try this!
Marketing. Don't you hate feeling manipulated?
So, did I eat it because it was forbidden to females? I am a bit transgressive by nature. But. Nah. It was just a treat in my Christmas stocking. And I shared it with Cranky, the man. (I'm too much of a chocolate snob to have enjoyed it, though. It's Not For This Girl!)
Seems Cranky found the English Candy section at our local "gourmet" store. He also got me an English Kit Kat bar, and I hate Kit Kat bars. I loved the English Kit Kat! What ho!
Must do more explorinating.
Pip pip!

I'm not keen on English chocolate, it's mostly too sweet. However, I'd have eaten it just because it says not for girls, because I'm a stroppy, contrary minx.

Mouse: It is too sweet.
(And OF COURSE that's why I ate it!)
The British Kit Kat is less sweet than American. Classier.

Chocolate that I can't eat has not been invented and I commend you for taking one for the team.

I also meant to tell you I think they carry those Kit Kat's' at the Tea Shop in Walt Disney World in World Showcase.

Simply: I understand the chocolate need. I had a fried for whom Hershey's Kisses would do it. (And, hell yeah, I ate it!)
Disney World... That's a bit of a hike, matey! :D

Brit candies! I saw something this week about making Violet Crumble ice cream. Does this ring a bell with anyone out there?

Kudzu: I can only say "I've heard of" Violet Crumbles. Apparently it's Australian, and doesn't taste of violets. Poo.
My mom adored Violet Candies (the square lavender lozenges that taste like soap).
I like the idea of the ice cream.

kudzu...the Violet Crumb Ice Cream recipe for Australia Day is over at Gourmet Worrier. Sounds great...but the whole process scared me silly.

Cookie, I am still laughing! What a clever marketing strategy that was...though after the novelty wore off...

Kudzu, Violet Crumble is the flavor of Tim Tams the Australian biscuit. It is usually possible to find some in North America :)

Kelly: Thanks for the recipe. We just missed Australia Day! Also, thanks for offering to send me a Kit Kat bar, but I've done shipping to Australia, and it's expensive. Save yourself the money and endeavor.
You are sweet. (But not too sweet!)

Shine: I just read something about a recipe with Tim Tams, and the name of it was funny... but can't remember.

Thanks, mates! We can get Violet Crumble bars here in Marin and I will follow up on the ice cream recipe. (Not for me, for a grandson who learned to love them Down Under.)

Just for you, my dear, in all its '70s naffness.
Ahh. It takes me back to my yoof!

J-in-Wales: There you are! Woke up thinking about you.
OMG, what a hokey ad, with all that American twang. So cool. Thanks.

Aww shucks, it is nice to be thought of - hope it wasn't as the result of waking from a bad dream!

Glad you enjoyed the ad. Yorkies are far too sweet for me as well. And they are so HUGE now. I am sure they were half the size back when they first came out.

J-in-Wales: I've had problems with my RSS reader, so I don't automatically click on the places I like so much. Just did a big catch-up with your blog. You astound me.

Late to the party I am. That is brilliant marketing! Of course you want to eat it.Something you are not suppose to have adds allure.

cookiecrumb said...

Greg: I have a whole new reason for having it. I didn't like it! But 'twas fun.

Minx :)
Have you tried any of the Japanese KitKats? Wild flavours indeed.

cookiecrumb said...

Mouse: They got Japanese Kit Kat? No, haven't seen them; I stagnated at Pocky and those little red jelly rice candies with the edible wrapper (in a small box). I'll look around. Ooh, I just found a bunch of Japanese candy on Google.
