I Wuv You to PIECES!

You think you can judge a puppy by the pretty little look in her face?
I've learned this wild face.
It says "I want to jump into the sky and lick your skin and maybe I'll be a little rough with my teeth but I'm a puppy and don't you LOVE this wild face?"
Yep.
Bartlett is doing really well. Today she had her last distemper puppy shot. She has added almost two pounds to her athletic frame. Cranky has proven to be a better disciplinarian than I expected (I trained all the other dogs). He can now walk her through the house, on the floor, to go outside — and back in. It's great that she's getting reliable floor time.
At the vet's today, Bartlett was so excited to see other actual humans that she went a little nuts. We know we have to get busy socializing her with people; maybe tomorrow. Malls, Christmas shoppers, kids. Perfect! She'll be a friend magnet.
Come say hi.

Ooooo. Look at that face! How could someone say no to that face? Well, except for those times when she gets over excited. Because I still remember how small puppy bladders can be when they get really excited. But still. That face!

Hi Bartlett! *waves from the other side of the world*

Are the ears as velvety as they look?

Of course you will get a picture of Bartlett and Santa.

Kailyn: Oh, you MUST say no to that face, especially when it's about to bite you.
Fortunately, she's got super bladder control (none of that submissive peeing on your shoes).
But -- that face! eee

Mouse: Arrrrooooooo! wag, wag

Zoomie: You got that right! She is upholstered in the softest velvet. It feels so good when she sleeps under the covers with me; my animated sex toy.

Chilebrown: Of course! Santa comes to the Marin Humane Society for photo ops.

Yay !!!! Does she still have new puppy smell?

Biggles: Yay! Indeed, she still has new puppy smell. Kind of "skunk-custard." Amazing how we can love a smell like that. Her vet yesterday (who got her degree at UC Davis and has dermatology as one of her specialties) said, "Don't bathe her. She smells good."

Dogs are cool! Hard to say no to that face.

She looks adorable and it seems like love is mutual. I'm glad that the puppy/people training is moving along at warp speed. I hope to meet her in person some day and stroke that velvet fur.

Greg: Alas, we are in the training phase where "NO" is said a lot. Fortunately, we are establishing that we are in charge. She doesn't even try to steal our food (much).

Nancy: Yes, you must meet her. She's still too wriggly and scratchy for other people; her outing yesterday at the bookstore produced welts on two kind people. Sigh.

i want her.

Oh, great, Claudia. Wait until I get her all trained, and THEN you dognap her. :D

I remember that phase from when I had puppies. The only advice I can offer is to brush her daily - it's a time that is positive in between all those necessary "NO!s"

BTW, did Mr. President like your gravy?

OOOOOH, I am melting in here.... she does have that terrier "aura" which pretty much means trouble in the horizon

I bet she still has that puppy smell...

but, but... only ONE picture? :-(

Zoomie: I've used a brush on her a couple of times, but her hair is so short, it's more like scratching her with bristles. Not sure she likes it. Good suggestion, though.

And yes, the president told me he came just for the gravy; better than his mother-in-law's.

Sally: I agree. There's a lot of dog in this doggie that will never be trained "out." We are simply aiming for "Not Frantic." Occasionally we even get mellow; amazingly.
I took some great new pix today; just wait!

Alice: I'm just so grateful we chose to adopt a puppy instead of a lovely one-year-old (which is perfectly perfect for some people -- I just wanted the developmental stages). But, whew!

Cora was puzzled by brushing at first, too, but now she leans into the brush. You could start with a soft brush for her baby skin. It's as much about the positive time spent as about hair removal. ;-)

Zoomie: Oh boy! An excuse to go to the pet store and buy something new! I will do that; sounds lovely.
