Help Me Out Here, People

Four years ago, I voted to unseat George W. Bush. My husband and I visited our polling station in the rumpus room of a Catholic church (ahem, separation, anyone?).
And then, heartened but frightened, we went to Caffe Trieste in Sausalito to knock back a couple glasses of plonk.
An old friend spotted us there, and chided us for our early imbibitions. (I know. It's cromulent.)
We finally went home, still heartened but frightened, and followed exit polls on the Netz. Hopeful! Amazing.
Then came Ohio, and... disaster. Bush thought he had a mandate. He thought he had political capital! On the narrowest of wins.
But yeah, he won. Somehow.
My comfort comes from knowing he will not win again tomorrow.
My fear... Well, let's not go there.
Help me out here, people. Vote to end the madness.
I'll be at Caffe Trieste if you need me.

I'm wondering if I should stop someplace on my way home tonight and buy a bottle of bubbly. We're doing what we can here in flyoverland: something like 98% of all eligible voters are registered in Michigan. We don't do early voting so tomorrow's the big day. I'm tingly with anticipation, frankly.

I've got lots of tequila at my house. Hopefully I won't need it.

Fingers tightly crossed over here, and I'll be first in line tomorrow at the polls to kick some Republican ass! I hope.

I am so nervous it's sick. Mostly because I'm terrified of the apocalypse, and I'm pretty sure Palin's gunning for it pretty hard.

Up here north of the 49th parallel, there are a number of bars and movie theatres broadcasting election coverage live, if you can believe it!

Know we are thinking of you and wishing you well!

There will be corks popped in our house tomorrow night as well if all goes as we hope it will. The alternative is too horrific to contemplate.

I'll be huddled with the kids and husband and the Saint Bernard in front of the wood burning stove and the big assed TV. Quivering. Every one of us.

El: You are confident; thanks. 98%!! Michigan rocks.

Dagny: You might drink a toast in congratulations!

Zoomie: Kick Repo heinie, babe.

Spitey: I know. I'm nervous too. But if the apocalypse comes, you and I can divide up Palin's $150,000 wardrobe!

Wot Larx: Oh, I do appreciate your Canadian hugs and well wishes! I hope we do good by you.
(PS: I'm a huge Joni Mitchell fan. Doesn't that make us BFFs?)

Alecto: I find myself, tonight, in a state of paralyzed quivering. Very disconcerting. Please, news cycle, move on!

Yellow Dog: Ohio! DAWG! Thankee.

Kel: I am so reinforced by your comments from overseas. Sigh. Scared.

I'm not supposed to say it, 'cause I love saying I'm an American (sometimes...) but if he doesn't win, I have to leave. Leave this place...fast & furious like. I think there are some job openings in the Maldives...

I can't stop posting Obama videos and posters on my blog. Well, I told my "readers" (all two of them) that the blog would be a political blog until after the election. Heaven help us all if the Repugs steal this one like they stole the last two. I'm on a couple of Yahoo Group lists where the Repugs are all self-righteous and snitty when anybody dares to question them on their beliefs. We don't need any more of that bigoted ignorance; this may be the last hope for our Republic. I guess I sound way to dramatic but I've been a civil rights marcher, an early feminist and an anti-war activist - albiet a lowly foot soldier in those battles. I've never seen the stakes so high or the choice so clear.

I'll join you (in spirit)at the cafe for a glass of plonk in celebration! I can't believe how nervous I am about this. My fingers are crossed and everything.

My Dad mailed in his Obama vote, I'm going to be in line in the morning to cast mine. The website hasn't been updated, but the signage reads "A Taste of Rome" I think I'll be glued to the TV for the outcome. Although I may slip out to Ben & Jerrie's (see my post tomorrow as to why...)

PS When Obama wins, will you be changing the name of your blog?

Nikki: I have thought of leaving, too. Belgium, anyone?

Nancy: I am you. (Koo koo ga-joob). Thanks for sharing my total mindset today.

Morgan: I rejoice in your kinship. Plonk! Cheers. :D

Anna: Go, girl! I am so impressed by your dad. My dad is voting Obama, too. Wow.
Will I change the name of my blog? No, I'll probably still be mad. But I might remove the "impeach" banner.

Kevin: It's adorable. I hope everyone here will go and read your story. Grilled Palin on rye. Wry.

I am an ohio voter, for your comfort or discomfort. And I voted, early! I appreciate Ohio's Supreme court rejection on blackwell and GOP's request to stop early voting. fools!

More importantly for voting early is I can't bare to stand another day of the miserable 8 years we've had. And because of the last 8 years, many of us ohioans are saying, yes we can. And I cannot stand to have a VP that says she's for women's rights yet won't allow women the choice they deserve. In their hands, we'll have to re fight the civil and women's rights battles, again.
