How to Complicate a Tomata

A few years ago, when I was new to blogging, I remember saying that I hated cooking my babies. My tomatoes.
Yeah! BLTs all the time. Gazpacho. Raw.
And yet, now that I'm growing 'maters in good numbers, I know I need to cook some of them. I make sauce for freezing. I even cook them into — gasp — recipes.
But I'm still partial to raw tomatoes.
I just usually try not to overfancy them.
Today we ate an overfancy salad of raw tomatoes.
But. Jeez. You grow years of tomatoes, and you finally say: Make it different!
Here you go. Three, no, four kinds of tomatoes. Oregano and parsley leaves. Peeled cukes. Red onion. Shaved dry jack cheese. Salt. Olive oil. Thinly sliced jalapeños (which, sadly, did not show up in the photo).
(Not even bragging about how much of this was home-grown.)

no matter how many times I milk myself, I simply cannot seem to grow a decent dry jack..

Am now depressed that it's officially fall.

Morgan: You scared me!

Anita: I tried to get you to take some tomatoes home with you last weekend.

Spitey: This is, um, food for thought. Has anyone ever made cheese from human milk?

Brittany: We have this delightful blip of insane "summer" every October in the Bay Area. Don't be jealous. Our fall begins on Halloween, and that's SOON.

I have seen Cookie's jack plant, even before she harvested it to dry, so I know her list is home-grown! Ah, the wonders of California!

Kudzu: Thanks for the endorsement. The only things I didn't grow for this salad were the salt, oil and cheese. Thanks to Spitey, I need now to learn how to lactate.

Kudzu: Oh, crap. I just got your joke.

I want a jack plant too!

Greg: I want a spaghetti plant.
