B   O   O  !

I guess I'll make good on my promise to pull out the backyard tomato plants on Halloween.
This wee, spooky critter just gives me courage, after all. Nothing's ripening out there anymore, and if they're going to make scary faces at me, then I'll yank their pathetic little feet out of the earth. Trick or treat, indeed!
First, of course, I will collect all the green tomatoes for roasting. There are quite a few green tomatoes.

I'm ripping all mine out today too, but we've had 2 killing frosts already.

I've got to do some yankin' too. But I just might let one cherry go until the frost gets it. One year I remember eating a decent cherry on Turkey day. The next day was frost. They shriveled and blackened and we ripped 'em out.

Guess what? I found 5 new blossoms on our lame-ass 'Sweet 10' plant today. I guess I have to call it a Sweet 15 now.

I totally forgot to ask this weekend if you had surplus green tomatoes.

Did you see this?

What a cute little terrorizer that green tomato is! I'm pullin' out the biguns tomorrow but, like monkey wrangler, I will leave the Sun Golds: the plant is still covered with various stages of tomatohood, from blossoms to edibles. I had them till T-Day last year.

So is that what you're supposed to do? Yank them out?

What happens if you just lazily leave them right where they are all winter long?

Peter: I know. You've had it hard already.

Chris: Funny, how we all regard this day as the end.
xx

MW: I had Sungolds until Jan. 1 last year. Spooky.

Anita: I might have to confess some of my plants look like they still have some anemic ripening to do. Not saying if I ripped them all out! :D
Thanks for the green tomato link.

Kudzu: It's all zen. We make it up as we go, and the plants tell us where to go.

Tammy: Leave them in! It's called site-specific composting.

Ooo. That looks like something out of a horror movie.

I think the vegetable photography gods favor you. This is quite perfect!

Do you ever pickle them, Polski Ogorski I think they're called?

I also made bread and butter type pickles with them, and my mom used to make green tomato chutney with water chestnuts in it. Yummy.

I like 'em breaded and fried, and made into a sammy on some crusty bread with loads of melty mozz.. dang, I'm hungry now!!

Dagny: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!!

Catherine: The propitious sunlight favored me. All those shadows and contours. Thank you!

b'gina: I tossed some green cherry tomatoes into a little leftover pickle juice a few years ago. It was OK. But I like the idea of green tomato chutney! :)

Stacie: I like 'em that way, too. But I have so many greenies left that I'd have to open a diner to sell all the sandwiches! Hee.

Reminds me of those ancient Hawaiian war masks made of gourds - intended to frighten!
