Food Is the New Sex

Everybody's talking about food, even those who aren't necessarily food-talker-abouters. The SF Chronicle's culture/politics/granddaughter/cat columnist, Jon Carroll, today weighs in with his thoughts on food.
Food is the new black. Food is the new politics. Food is the new religion. Food is the subject of all conversation, the cynosure of all eyes. It's all about the food. Sex? It's over. Food: That's the topic that drives all humans mad.
You can read the rest here.
But his lead paragraph reminds me of an illustrated quip my dad sent me today, just by coincidence:

I have been remiss on my Jon Carroll reading. Thank you for the link. I like to think of him as my replacement fix for Herb Caen -- started reading him at age 15. Did I just say that? No one could ever replace Herb.

I hated Herb Caen for the most part and I'm fairly sick of Mr. Carroll too. You, however, Ms. cookiecrumb are the real deal and Mr. Cranky is too. It was a real treat meeting you.

Aw, Dagny, you "old" thing.

Mike! We just pulled into the garage, and you've already done a drive-by. Thanks for the snark, and IT WAS SO GREAT TO MEET YOU TOO.

Hee hee! Yep, it's cool to think about your food too! And for me, I think it's about time! We Americans have been shoving the products of mulit-conglomorate capitalization down our gullets for long enough! Back to the farm, I say!! Whew, that felt good! I'm mad and I eat too! xo

The rub isn't that food is the new sex.

It's the sex. it gets old without the food

Perhaps Vichyssoise is a dish best served cold.

but sex is the best dish- served not to the cuckold

At the risk of being risqué, I'd like to say that I like to combine the two. I don't think I"ll even attempt an explanation.

Thanks CC I've been out of sorts lately and missed John Carroll. He's got keen insight. Meanwhile my imagination runs wild about Cyndi's snark??

Ha! The "can't get into my own pants" line is great!

Brilynn: I know. It's great use of language, and alas -- so true.
