Oh, Damn. Oh Damn.

A year ago I had six tomato plants, and I was already eating the first ripe ones in June.
This year it rained for, oh let's see: EVER. And I didn't start my annual tomato crop until May.
And then we had an 11-day heatwave, on top of some strange disease that afflicted my lone plant this summer.
Now I've got tomato jerky.
Damn, damn, damn.

Poor baby! We're still eating delicious BLTs but this heat wave has stopped the production line. We need some cooler weather so our two plants might start blooming again. Well maybe next year. You did so well last year. Remeber the old saying, "Plant one and it fizzles, plant two and you will be swimming in tomatoes"

Aw crap.

Our green beans did okay. I got our first crop this morning, an entire collander full! SNAP.

But that's the only edibles I planted.

That's awful. I was having a conversation on Sunday about how the weather has been so hard on plants around here.

Tana: I felt that from your heart! :)
Stacie: Hey, maybe I should just cut them in half and let the sun finish the job.
Pop: Oh yes, I remember that old saying. And then there's "Make up a silly aphorism, and your kid will tease you about it on her blog." Hah! xx
Biggs: Snap! (Snap beans?)
Dagny: It didn't die of neglect; we watered it a lot... The heat was just too hot.

Oh, I didn't think it was neglect. It was just too hot over these last few weeks for the most loved plants.

Aw, Dag...! I didn't think you were calling me a bad tomato mom! I was just moaning to the rest of the world. xx

Damn it all to Hades! My sympathies...

Looks like your plant had some sort of "blight" effect.

No worries, you're welcome to some of our tomatoes when ready for harvest. Heck, you're only a hop, skip and a jump away.

Sharing is caring.

Tootles,
Anni :-)

I hate when that happens. Several years ago my tomatoes did exactly the same thing. My wax beans are having problems from the heat and look horrible.

CC,
Poor girl. So much for being a tomato bum this year.

That sucks! I heard today on the radio that all sorts of crops in the Central Valley are affected by the extreme heat. I'm glad I didn't try to start planting this year. Hopefully next year will be better!

Tomato shrivel..not good! Off to the farmers market you go.

Anni: Keep flirting with me! I'll be there in a heartbeat.
Sher: Good luck with the beans. If Biggles hasn't eaten all his, there's a colander-full at Meathenge Labs.
Kevin: Ah, but I am still a bum.
Alice Q: It could be commercial devastation. My tomatoes were the only thing that really bit the dust in my patio, but there's not much else besides herbs and ornamentals.
Greg: Yes! Why I live so close to the market.

Oh how sad! We, too, had a terrible rainy season over here this year, and now it's crazily hot. All the flowers on my little tomato plant died except one...

Well, better luck next year, right? :)

Aw, thanks, tomodachi-chan. Good luck to you and your sad little tomato.

I can commiserate as this seems to be the year of sad gardening. I have three new plants which are all on their way to being dead, scale on my lemon tree, leaf mold on my rose bush, and a potato bug infestation.

The only thing that's surviving is my new dwarf mandarin...but then the day I bought that plant my car was stolen (while I was buying it).

I'm glad I didn't bother trying to do a veggie garden this year!

KF: Hang in there. Just yesterday I concluded my Meyer lemon tree was dying, but today I've changed my mind. Those tomatoes, though. I gave them a "formal" funeral a couple of days ago, and if nature performs, I might get some new plants next year in the same pot. (Except I suspect the pot is contaminated.) Your CAR!!!!
