Solstice Sistah

Really, you can't imagine how much you want this concoction.
Cucumber water.
I love cucumbers; always have. My dad warned me when I was about six and ordered a cucumber salad in a restaurant that they would make me burp. How cool! I couldn't wait to start burping. (It didn't happen.)
So, the other day we put together something that needed peeled cukes. There were all those beautiful, deep green curls left over.
I'm a nose-to-tail eater, so the peels did not go immediately onto the compost pile. They went into a pitcher of water, and in the fridge. After we drink the fragrant water, we will toss the peels onto the compost. Too damn brilliant.
Burp!

I had some at a recent wedding and thought at the time it was brilliant. You could also add fresh spearmint. Great idea for a hot day (which never materialized over here - it's breezy and warm but not really HOT as I had hoped. Oh, well, I'll take breezy and warm. At least I get to wear shorts for the first time since Hawaii.

Zoomie: Mint would be yummy. Or orange rind (we still got a few on the tree). Or both.
We had a really warm day here!

Wow, I'm going to have to give that a go, cool, refreshing and ... green *burp*

I'll accept that! Dig a hole, fill it and jump in!

Of course, today, it's overcast. Sigh.

Mouse: I like drinking water a lot, and cucumber water even more!

Biggles: Aw. We have sun in Marin today. I'm so glad you're feeling good. Xx

Hic, haec, hoc.... (I used to burp my babies with this Latin I!)

My favorite body lotion of all time was Caswell Massey Cucumber and Elderflower, which they no longer make. Other cucumber toiletries smell like very poor attempts to capture that freshness.

Kudzu: Mark Jacobs makes a very nice cucumber toilet water. Not an emollient, but it smells perfect. Sephora.

Thanks for the shopping tip, Cooks. You're cool as a you-know-what.

Two words: Persian cucumbers.

cookiecrumb said...

Kudzu: Totally Persian cucumbers. And I meant Marc, not Mark. Eeh, fashion.

I was thinking about making some cucumber water just a couple of days ago, after almost passing out running in the Oklahomic heat :-)

I had it once in a hairdresser in L.A. and thought it was amazing!

They put the slices floating on the water, but good to know you can use the peels for that. Will do!

Sally: It suits my frugal ways, and... We still get to use it for compost. :)
