Just Poison Me Now

You may have noticed the news stories, and the foodosphere's reaction: Deadly BPA is in lots of food cans, and artificial dye is bad for your brain. You can hardly avoid the stuff, unless you make your own refried beans and eschew gummi bears.
Welp. Somebody's in trouble.
This is what we ate the day before last. Frito Pie. Our clever idea was to use bright-orange Doritos instead of Fritos, smothered with a can of chili (Trader Joe's, but BPA nonetheless).
Oh, and the cheddar on top is so vivid, it must be chemically colored, too.
I just ordered a couple of headstones, because that was one toxic plate of goofy, guilty, good eating.
Hell, fooey. Come on. The cheese was local!

Neon orange is a food group no? Some things just have to be eaten.I'm thinking hot cheetos would be an ideal match for the chili too.Fingers stained orange to provide a lasting memory.

At my age, something else will claim me long before the BPA does. I've decided to emulate Alfred E. Neuman.

Greg: In my house it is definitely a food group! I must have about 17 groups by now.

Zoomie: I feel safe too. Worry? What. Me?

If it makes you feel any better, I understand that orange cheddar is generally coloured with achiote. The odd person may be allergic to it, (I know someone who is) but it's otherwise pretty harmless stuff. Unless they've changed their modus operandi since last I checked which is always possible.

I'm a big fan of the yellow food group. I restrict myself for health reasons but every now and again only yellow & crunchy will do!

Ferdzy: It makes me feel a lot better! I have no problem with achiote, aka annato. Nature's own orange. (Nature's icky yellow-green would be turmeric, but that's a different easter egg.)

Mouse: I wonder if your crunchy yellow foods might include potato crisps. I can make a meal on those.

John: Yeah, it *was* pretty good, in a horrifying way.

Oh, yes:

TOO HOT OUTSIDE! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?

Potato crisps, yes and worse, these http://bit.ly/dsWCsX and these http://bit.ly/175acC
I die of shame everytime I do, but I eat them anyway.

I love (And have blogged) Frito pie. Fritos are not that bad for you, really - they're only made of three ingredients.
