Hold Still, Hold Still... {Flap}

Bartlett is going on her very first road trip Friday. It's a day trip, three hours down and three hours back. Which is a lot of driving.
She does well in the car; just moans for a few blocks and then falls asleep in her crate. That's when we drive to the mall or something. But this is new.
This morning we were mentally packing the car, and realized we're bringing nothing for ourselves. There will be a hostess gift of lovely local baked goods; that'll take up almost no space at all.
The rest of the load is doggie stuff. Her dishes, her food, some emergency water for the road, her crate, her leash, her playpen and the layer of towels we line it with in case there's ever an accident (there isn't, but...). The playpen collapses for travel, thank goodness, because it's roomy enough for a toddler.
We only plan to be at our destination for a short while, but we're bringing everything since it's her first trip and we don't know how she'll behave.
She likes new people, no problem. The problem is she likes them too much. "Oh, new person! Wag, wag, wag. Kiss, kiss, kiss. I don't know you but I love you forever! Hug, scratch, pat. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle."
And then I'm thinking "Six hours in the car for this puppy? Who thought this up?"

Have you baked Bartlett dog cookies yet? I have a recipe for her.

You could just get her a doggy seatbelt and goggles and let her hang her head out the window when you drive, she'd LOVE that!
I remember travelling with our dogs, back in the olden days, they just loved hanging out the window, ears & tongues flapping in the wind :)

She'll be fine as long as she has you two along.

Cute picture.

We are the same way. Always amazed at how much stuff the dog has. Food. Snacks. Bed. Blankie. Medicine. Toys. Leash. Rain coat.

Have fun on your road trip!

Kitikata: I'm panicking, but hubz is serene. I hope it's a huge success.

Chilebrown: Haven't made cookies for this dog, but I used to a few dogs back. I even have a dog cookie cookbook. Whatchu got?

Mouse: She's too small to hang her head out. That would require some engineering, so we'll just leave the windows up.

Zoomie: Yeah, but should I take the Xanax or give it to Bartlett?

Dog: Yeah, I didn't even mention the toys, chew stick, blankets, treats. How cute are you!

You're going to need a larger vehicle.

Whatever works, kiddo! :-) Ask Cranky to decide who needs it more.

Amazing that I came here hoping for a post about Bartlett, and there it was!

today we put our beloved dalmatian to sleep, I know it was the right thing to do, but it doesn't make it easy

Biggles: I know, then at the end we're going to kill Bruce with an exploding thingie in his mouth.
Bartlett should be fine and stop scaring me.

Zoomie: XX

Sally: Such sad news today. I'm glad you came here for a dose of doggie. My deepest condolences for you. You'll be on my mind.

Dogs are so worth all the fuss, though. They're awesome to have around - like little eccentric people in fur suits! I miss ours terribly.

Ah, you're probably on your way! I was going to suggest splitting a Xanax between Bartlett and you.

Hope it was/is a buon viaggio. I'm sure we'll have a report.

I love your Bartlett posts - I get to read about a delightful dog (you know, I kept typing god over and over). Wonder where that came from? Anyway, you get the pain and I get the pleasure of your posts. Maybe you AND Bartlett should take the pill but I'll but it will turn out just fine.
Bon Voyage and Happy trails!

Juanita: I'm a serial dog owner. I hope you will get to a point in your grieving where you can consider another pup. Gosh, what a lot of work and a lot of love.

Greg: We're back! It worked out fine! She pooped in my parents' hallway, but even that was just "funny."

Kudzu: Well, lots to report, but not here. Best news is that the dog travels well. She conked out in her car crate, and didn't drive anyone too, too very crazy. We were relieved, and... thrilled!

Nancy: Boy, did that "god" sleep well last night. No drugs needed. We're so grateful. And exhausted. Long day.
