We've been working on a huge ham from Prather Ranch. It tastes so good; really good cure and no smoky ashtray flavor. We've been using it to put in things and around things and... I just wanted a slice on its own. I guess I'm a square.
So that made for a pretty Sunday lunch, along with a fresh green salad (the mache was bitter, ech) and a mound of what we are calling Cannonshot. It is a hybrid of colcannon and clapshot.
Cranky used a hand masher, and the carrot stayed lumpy, which I think is springy looking. And, it didn't come out looking like Gerber's pureed baby aspirin.
Excuse me, I have to get back to the fireplace. Sigh.

Nice. Isn't handy to have a ham around? You can use it for so many things or, as you say, just eat a slice on its own. Mmm, ham.
FIREPLACE??? O my how I'd love a little fire to crackle in our fireplace (LOVE the cannonshott).
Dog: OMG. When Cranky brought it home, I thought it would have to go in the freezer. But it's SO good, we're eating it all up, in many guises (including fried rice). Not salty. Just perfect.
Mouse: Yes, because this is California, and we NEED fireplaces. Today we really did need it, if only for mood. It poured cold rain, hard, all day.
Don't you use your fireplace? Oh, too warm, still.
xo
Today was the perfect day for a fire, chilly with a bit of rain in the air, but no firewood and a new kitten and Mr Brown hates cleaning up afterwards!(so do i, or I'd do it )
Oh, i felt so full of food since yesterday's huge lunch and was really going to keep a low profile today and then you have to post about this ham! sigh, i'm hungry again and I can feel that I won't be satisfied with what I had planned...
That looks like the best Hallmark Greeting card I've every seen!
Dorothy Parker once described "eternity" as a ham and two people.
Mouse: We've had a couple of fires since getting the dog, but she's a bit curious... This might have been the last of the season, as you slide into your beloved coolth.
Ilva: Hi, cutie. I can guess that you don't have leftover ham from Easter. I'm sure you've got something lovely planned, so just feast your eyes here vicariously; my pleasure.
Greg: It's very Hallmark. Of the eight or so shots I took, I liked this composition the best, but it was a bit blurry. So I decided to play off that, by toning down the saturation. And then, yes, it needed a corny greeting in a corny typeface.
Zoomie: She hadn't met me, Cranky and the Prather boys! Good one.
