Soup Is My Thang

I love soup, and I love making soup.
Cranky is less avid. He has always thought soup wasn't real food. He needed chunks, knives, texture.
That didn't stop me. I've been making soups ever since ever, and I wasn't going to stop.
Guess what. Cranky fell in love with soup. Over time, admittedly. I would have to make him lumpy soups to persuade him he was really eating. Even so, I continued to make my smooth soups, and he happily consumed them, usually with a slab of bread.
Today, he ate this beautiful cream of asparagus soup without any bread at all. The soup was so nourishing (made with silken tofu as well as a few glugs of cream), that we didn't feel the need for embellishments. It was filling.
Spring-tasting, with a little dill, shallot, white pepper, salt, and robust vegetable stock.
Oh. And Cranky MADE this soup.
He is still going around the house snapping his fingers, he's so proud.

You've turned him into a pod person. Oh wait. That's what the next soup will be. Me? I've just never understood how someone could think a soup or a salad is nit a meal. Obviously they haven't had the right ones.

I think I could eat soup every day and not mind a bit. Sounds delicious, love the idea of the tofu. Team soup!

That looks gorgeous! Looks like Cranky has a right to be proud of this creation.

Your thang has become his thang. You give me hope that My Beloved will see the wisdom of soup as a meal, too, some day in the perhaps far distant future.

Soup of the evening, beautiful GREEN soup! Glad to see that Cranky is a convert. I think the first green soups of spring are perfect to begin the season. Next, watercress? Peas?

Sounds delicious. The tofu idea is intriguing...did it just thicken the soup, or was there any tofu-y taste to the soup? It's pretty bland I guess.

Kailyn: Persuasion works; just be subtle. He likes the way I flavor food, so I helped him with the seasonings. He was pleased. Me too.

Kalyn: Team Soup!!! xo

Zia: It might have been the first soup he's ever made. Cream of asparagus sounds pretty accomplished, so he feels accomplished.

Zoomie: Do it his way at first. Meat, vegetable chunks, etc. Bread. Then start lightening, blending, creaming. Sneak!

Kudzu: I love green soups, and I love orange soups. Oh, I guess I love white and tan soups too. Spring pea soup sounds sweet.

Hungry Dog: The tofu (silken!) gives bulk, creaminess, but no discernible taste. It adds protein, and it's damn fool easy.

Sorry, I meant 'his" not "is"

Velva: He has this "housewife" tendency. He takes such joy in his successes. Me, I just sit back and enjoy.

It's your Thang do what you wanna do! I can imagine you with a seasonal soup stand at the Marin farmer's market.I'd be a customer.

Sinful: I'm still stunned. We had talked about a cream of asparagus soup; I had no idea HE intended to make it. Lucky me.

Greg: Nah, I'd probably turn into the Soup Nazi. "No soup for you!"

I saw this soup and I tasted it. Literally tasted it in my mouth, solely upon the sight of it. I have also been making (and eating) soup since ever. It's a perfectly chic and manly thing.
