Simon Le Bon Made My Lunch

Food is very dull chez nous, these days. I like what I'm eating, but I wouldn't really want to share it with you. Leftover fried rice? Bean burrito?
So, here's the classiest thing we've turned out of the kitchen in weeks. "Chinese" beef salad.
There was a really good piece of leftover grilled steak in the freezer, and our fridge is filled with crisp winter greens: baby gem lettuce and pepper cress. The orange tree is loaded with golden globes. For some reason we have three packages of cellophane noodles in the pantry. Add in radishes and scallions, and a brisk dressing made with rice vinegar and sesame oil (and stuff). Toasted cashews on top. Done.
It was so '80s.
I felt like I was having lunch at the Cheesecake Factory.
And I liked it!

Hey, there were some good things about the 80s...right?

Your salad looks bright and sunny. I like it. But hey I also like leftover fried rice. A lot.

No apologies needed, that looks positively lovely!

Beautiful photo with the bright greens and golden fruit against the black plate and red mat. Very cool.

I met Simon Le Bon at a bus stop once.
Well, I was at the bus stop and he was coming out of the BBC building. But I fondly like to remember it as a meeting...

And your lovely, fresh-looking salad beats parsnip-based bubble and squeak into a cocked hat!

Hungry Dog: I remember lots of good things about the 80s. (And leftover fried rice was probably one of them.)

El: Very uplifting. Orange + onion = quiver.

J-in-Wales: Eeee! I would have gone over and touched him. I'm a cougar.
Bubble and squeak is exactly what I need; it's raining miserably here. xo

You had 3 packets of cellophane noodles in the pantry for the same reason I do. You see them at the market and think, ooo, I could make (something) with those ... and then you do it again, a week or so later, having never made that (something).
Ps, in highschool, I quite fancied Mr LeBon *blushes*

Mouse: I insist that you leave your husband and come live with me. (I'll check with Cranky.)

I feel the same way lately. I enjoy my food, but I don't want to put it on my food blog. Also. The salad is that feeling that spring wants to be here. Or maybe it's just us that want spring to be here?

I'm so square, I had to look up M.leBon on wikipedia. Love the colors of your lunch on that black plate and red mat. Like stained glass, luminous.

That salad is full of such cheer!

And your wish in the header worked! Sunny day today! You are magic!

Melanie: The lettuces are so wonderful this time of year. The orange tree exudes delicious bounty. It's automatic! C'mon, spring.

Zoomie: Oh, wow, thank you. Yeah, I have to admit I was a fan of Duran Duran in the prime of MTV. When they actually played music.
My subhead worked today, but we'll be deluged again tomorrow. Wah.

Marie: Exactly! Frisky and uplifting.

Wah, indeed.

Buh... where's Simon??? I was so excited! I was totally one of those 14 year old girls who had a wicked crush on him. I'd still love for him to make my lunch!

Great photo. Did you get yourself a lightbox??

cookiecrumb said...

Alice: I should have named this blog Hungry Like the Wolf. Hah!

Greg: Gee, thanks! No light box, but there's a perfect window. I set the plate on top of the freezer, which is a great height for me to shoot. And the veiled winter sun is magic; just gotta do your photoing before supper time.

Mr Brown says he'd rather I didn't and promises NOT to forget to pick me up from the Gallery on Wendesdays EVER again.
(If he does, you're on ) ;)

Thank Kudzu for me and tell her the author needs an editor. :-)
