Springburst

Man, that got here fast.
Spring.
Petals are falling from the sky everywhere and I'm discovering plants I never knew I'd find growing in my yard. Yellow tulips! Planted decades ago, no doubt, and still eager to burst forth when the conditions are just right.
Fruit trees are bristling with blossoms you'd never have suspected were tucked inside those gnarly branches just a few days ago.
It's a good feeling.
The annual renewal, after months of harsh wet rains and winds, is such a thrill, it's almost worth going through winter each year, just so we can have spring every 12 months.
Am I already looking forward to next spring? Yow. No.
Today we brought home a crook-neck squash seedling, two pepper plants, some chives, and a dozen tiny plastic cells of mache. And that's just for starters.
Gotta get our winter-white thumbs into the soil and see if they will turn green.

Oh, you are really making me jealous here in Michigan, you know. It all sounds wonderful. I love bringing home those first little plants. I can't wait.

Don't worry; the green thumb comes back...it's like riding a bike.

I succumbed to the lure of some seed packets two weeks ago...

The annual renewal indeed.

Secretly, I always think of March as the real month when the New Year begins...

(yellow tulips! yay!)

Green with envy, I tell you!
Here in Tennessee weather is so fickle. One minute it's 70 degrees the next it's 35. March madness for real!
So looking forward to digging in the dirt!

My garlic, fennel, chard and beets are all coming up! And my flowers are popping too. Yay!! I even saw a tiny root sticking out its head from the tomato seed in my seed starter. :D

Almost called you to tell you I remember that my grandfather always planted his green beans on Good Friday, but --- I have been bedeviled by email gremlins and have spent all my time with that...I envy your hands in the earth...Found some chives and green garlic in my own pots. Still haven't done the big garden stuff yet but hope to, once this tech hell is resolved...Have a wonderful Easter weekend, you three!

Petals are falling from the sky everywhere. Asparagus is Springing from all the booths of the markets. We went to the San Mateo Market today. I paid two dollars for a bunch of organic green onions. I wonder if I am the fool. Should I ask them for proof. Do I sound bitter. Am I a cheapscape? or just a Mad Meat Genius?

Let me add my voice to the jealous ones--here in NY it's 30 degrees today and supposed to be in the 20s tonight. I'm dying for a trip to California farmer's market just about now...
