Happy December

Comfort food: peppers stuffed with two kinds of cheese, sauteed onions, and cooked beans. Put in baking dish with a dribble of water and cover with foil; cook at 350ºF until the pepper softens, then remove foil and return to oven to let the cheese brown a little.
Oh, yes, and Rudy Giuliani is a crook, a buffoon, and a scaredy-cat. I don't want him in the White House. Pass the word.

Oooh, I clicked in to say that this looks just so tasty and I also don't want Rudy anywhere my government, but then I remembered I had to go see if I guessed right about the book! I thought you might be talking about Ruhlman's book, which I haven't seen although I've heard a few bloggers who have met him remark on what a nice guy he is. Probably not a book I would ever think of buying, and as Dagny pointed out, I'm quite up on my measurements.

(Why didn't I see that post in my rss? One of those insanely busy days I guess, where I just click "all read". Sometimes I think I should just go nuts and get it over with.)

Ok, supposed to say "anywhere near my government" but you knew that didn't you?

Now I brought back some beans so I will give this a try. I think Embee is waiting for me to get back in the kitchen!!

Kalyn: I do believe Ruhlman is a nice guy, based on all I've heard. I just thought he could do better. Or to put it another way, who's this cooking newbie putting out a book on the elements of cooking? Yeesh.

Chris: Would they be Rancho Gordo beans? Because that's what I used (Red Nightfall variety). I hope you and Embee are happy back in each others' arms. Er. Well, back in the kitchen.

Who but Rudy will keep America safe from ferrets and squeegee men?

It's worth noting that since Bush and Pataki were MIA on 9/11 that Giuliani has gotten all this credit just for doing his damn job. Doing it pretty well, admittedly, except for putting the emergency command center in one of the towers. D'oh. And then skipping out on the commission meetings to rake in money giving lectures.

Seriously, though, he should mention 9/11 more often. There might be some bacteria near an ocean-bottom volcanic vent who don't know the connection yet.

Oh, and the beans look fabulous. Mmm. Beans.

Love those peppers - they are so versatile! They don't love me but I sometimes fix them anyway, usually stuffed with ground meat and all kinds of veggies. Amen to Rudy - he did a fine job after 9-1-1 but he's not the guy for the job in DC.

stuffed peppers. with cheese and beans. yum.

you sure do think of some good stuff that doesn't cross my mind. what were the cheeses?

Oh my, those look delish. Too bad Cameron doesn't like chiles rellenos. :(

I'll have to put this in my file of dishes to make when he's on busines trips :)

Note to self: take head out of sand!
Didn't know Rudy had tossed his hat in the ring but no surprise there.
Cookbok doesn't sound like one I'll buy..at least not for me but don't know the chef.
The peppers and cheese, now THAT I can relate to.
It's going to be an interesting year!

Peter: Rudy is a chicken! Security is a huge issue for him because he's so afraid. 9/11! 9/11! :D

Zoomie: Meat is a perfectly good choice for stuffing peppers, but we get such pleasure from these bean and cheese ones. And the variety of pepper is different every time; look at the pale green color of these! Eeee.

CEF: I didn't invent this idea, but the first time I heard it, I thought... Why didn't I think of that? The cheeses were ricotta and dry jack, but anything would do. Feta. Mexican cotija.

Anita: I hope you'll give it a try. Really easy. And it's strictly up to your imagination how to stuff them.

Katie: Sometimes I want to be an expatriot. Because I'm sure having a hard time being a patriot. :D

Hey Cookiecrumb,
Nominated you for best humor blog at Wellfed. Couldn't find your email to let you know. Best of luck.

As I am still in search of foods with some fat content to them, I would gladly inhale those peppers.

Susan: Oh, wow! That is so kind. I guess I'd better get funny now. Oops, running out of time.
(You can find my email by clicking on the enigmatic line under my "About.")
Thank you!!!

Dagny: Aw, we felt all healthful eating them, y'know?

Dagny said...

Oh, but while they do sound healthy, they also contain cheese. Which means that there's got to be some kind of fat in there. Because you would never buy that fatfree stuff, would you>? Because fatfree cheese just seems wrong.

I nominated you for best writing. I'd have included Cranky but he doesn't write often enough to qualify. Thank heavens you do!

Aw, gee, Zoomie! That's really such a compliment. My hunch, though, is that for most readers of blogs, "good writing" is, uh, not like mine. You know what I mean.
But thanks!
PS: This takes some of the steam out of a compliment I've been meaning to send your way. Sounds like I'm just making nice-nice... But I love your writing.

Coming from you, that's truly a compliment. Gonna cherish that one!

How funny, I just got some red nightfall beans in the mail last week! Along with some dried pozole, some new mexico red chile powder (great stuff, but watch out, it's as hot as cayenne!) and some oregano. Woo hoo!

Alice Q: Who you buyin' that stuff from? Rancho Gordo?
