If You Give a Puppy a Pear...

Hey, slow down with that thing, little fella! Pears don't grow on trees, you know.
Oh. Right.
They do, and they continue to drop off nightly, about 20 on the ground most mornings. The pears are getting bigger all the time. Because they are growing. On trees.
I sure hope Bean Sprout isn't under the tree when one decides to drop. I had a pear fall onto my back yesterday while I was picking up the previous night's jumpers. OW! Heavy.

I do wish I lived by you, not only would it be fun, but I love pears. (But not if they are falling on my head, just when they're in my mouth.)

Ooo. The things that Natasha could do with a pear if given a chance. She had to make due yesterday with the basil leaf I threw on the floor for her. (She likes greenery.) And once more, Bean Sprout is too too adorable. Squeeee!

I'm beside myself with jealousy at your bounty. It's a shame I live so far away, what with all this Aussie wine I don't like any more sitting around as neglected as your pears.

I'll trade you some of my soon-to-be-ripe peaches for some of your lovely pears... deal?

My pears are getting ready, too... soon
My dogs like to play with the pine cones - big ones, that fall. They chase them areound awhile, then lie down and chew out the nuts. It rains dog toys at our house!

Bean Sprout is just the cutest...keep him away from falling pears.

pears are one of my very favourite fruits and these look delicious. I paid some dollars for similar looking ons at the market last week.

I made some peach butter this weekend, and, well: every time I can something that I roast or reduce first, I am shocked (shocked!) by how much less "product" I get from the original. Peach butter? 1/2 bushel down to three measly pints!

I say this with hope that you needn't be overwhelmed by all that pear bounty!

Kalyn: Alas, I can't even ship these pears, because we are under quarantine for a moth problem. But if you lived by me, I could give a pal a pear (or two)!

Dagny: Aw, thanks. BS helped himself to a basil leaf the other day. Nipped it right off the bush.

Peter: Bounty... Actually it's becoming tyranny, and I'm having to think of ways to distribute the wealth. (Do you have a blog? I can't click through on your name.)

Trinigourmet: I'm as stunned as you are. When we moved here three months ago, the fruit was barely recognizable (but yes, pear-shaped) buds on the tree. And now all this!! Eeee.

Chilebrown: Hey! I'm full of lyrics (instead of that other stuff for a change). xx

Liz: He only selects perfectly ripe ones. He's quite talented!

Tammy: And he's nice. He lets us eat the leftovers.

Zoomie: Oh, hell yeah!

Katie: We have to be careful on the way to the bathroom in the dark. There's always a squeakie or a stuffie or two on the floor... :D

Beccy: Thanks. He's so amazing. He just felt barfy an hour ago, but now he's having breakfast. Magic dog.

B&P: Don't pay anymore!!! ;-)

El: Exactamundo. I made pear butter from about seven pounds (already peeled and cored), and came up with a quart. Which is good, because it's compact. Now we've gotta start in on the fresh uses for ripe pears. Salads. Um. "Pears," to eat. ;)

I love pears! Have you tried making any sorbet yet?

Just feel blessed you don't have a durian tree in your backyard. Those suckers could kill a person (or adorable little dog)!

Leena: Haven't tried sorbet yet, but it's on the list. Easy-peasy. And then, believe it or not, I have a recipe (thanks Anita) for David Lebovitz's Pear-Pecorino Ice Cream! Insane. It's like he was channeling Cookiecrumb.

ChrisB: Hi, girlie. I've been following your adventures with the grandkiddies.

NM: You are too kind. Don't you think Ernest would like a pear of his own? (Slug-killer... heh heh.)
