Eating With Dogs

I think Marin County is becoming increasingly friendly to dogs, but I don't want to jinx my luck.
Monterey County is notoriously dog-friendly, but even so, I don't believe the local government permits doggies inside restaurants. Whatever. We snuck the beautiful and un-barkish Bean Sprout into a lovely seafood place in Pacific Grove, zipped into his stylish tote. Oh, yeah, and we snuck him into a cute breakfasty place there, too. But it was still sneakage.
Today we needed to be away from our house in Marin for a few hours, and we dragged Bean Sprout in his butch black-leather tote to a restaurant that has a generous policy of doggies dining on the sidewalk.
BUT!
They insisted that we bring the beautiful pup inside, into the restaurant.
I resisted. I demurred.
They demanded. I relented.
(Wouldn't you?)
"He's in a bag," said the lovely hostess.
As if that made him sanitary.
He is sanitary, by the way...
So.
Wow, what a fun lunch.
I can only tell you that, on the menu, we were offered the choice of white rice or brown rice.
Not fried rice — brown rice. Healthful. Nourishing. Comforting.
Just what we needed. Oh, and. Bean Sprout was *really* hungry, because he's been derailed and off his feed. So, he just snarfed up handfuls of tender brown rice.
Gosh, what a great place.
So sorry it must remain a secret.
Yay, Marin!

Bean and rice! Yummy! I went out to lunch in Downtown Honolulu twice with a girlfriend and her bischon, er bishon, mmm LITTLE WHITE DOG. Honolulu is notoriously rude to four-legged diners, but both times we were in the outdoor section of the restaurants. And both times, the restaurant was cool with it. Pretty lucky though. It helps to be little and white and fluffy, don't you think? And blonde!? LOVE YER PHOTOS, CC. All the best to U and the other C and B. KT

Lucky Bean Sprout dining out.

Lunch sounds delicious.

Well of course they welcomed Bean Sprout. They'd be nuts if they didn't. And here you go planting food thoughts once more. I haven't had brown rice in some time. Perhaps this evening, seeing as it is one of the staples I always have on hand. Now I remember why I haven't made in any lately. I was busy on that couscous kick.

KT!!!! (This is my beloved old girlfriend from years past, just so all the rest of you know.) Yeah, Bean and rice.
It TOTALLY helps to be white and fluffy, and especially little. Oh, and cute.
Please come and visit, KT.

Beccy: You can come and visit too. :D

Dagny: Yup. But what's with this "couscous kick"? You are too much. BTW, the brown rice was like porridge. So soft and soothing.

CC: I'm like totally lame or something......can't figure out yer' address. Write me: geodylan@comcast.net

and this post, makes me think of Iggy: now I wanna, be your dog (uh, okay he might have had a different connotation in mind, but I couldn't help myself)

But where's the picture of the delightful Bean Sprout enjoying his treat?

LOL. You'd be surprised with how many things couscous can go with. It was like an obsession for some time there. It had completely replaced rice, potatoes, and all other grainy things.

Monkey Rassler: I could tell you how to find it, but then I'd have to kill you.
So, you're missing Iggy, are you? My little feller -- what a joy.
Sure, you can be my dog!

ChrisB: Here he is. http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7782/1097/1600/DSCN1010.jpg
I may be giving away more information than I should! :D

Dagny: Oh, I get it. Sounds good. But I've got this damn local obsession going on, and wheat is not local. Although I will admit to eating pasta and bread from time to time. :-) Tortillas, too.
(PS: I'll be back to blogging soon. Been sorta distracted.)

ChrisB: Whoops, that didn't work. Try this

When our mutt, D.O.G, started down the long trail of tears in preparation for her journey to the other side, my dear wife began making her homemade dog chow. Oddly enough, considering the photo you chose to illustrate your missive, the main ingredient in homemade, organic, healthful dowchow is brown rice! And carrots! and then came the various chicken and turkey parts. 'Twas a shame our spawn had all grown up by that point, as youngsters they occasionally dined al fresco with fido. Had they done so during the last few years of D.O.G.'s life, they would have eaten well.

I have two very large dogs: The little one is a German Shepherd and the big one is Landseer Newfoundland/Pyreneen Mastiff. We take them to restaurants here.
We are totally ignored until both dogs have water bowls and treats.
Then, and only then, will the waiter acknowledge us (disdainfully, of course)
You have a cute, cute doggie!

Katie: Oh, so the dogs are the preferred customers? My, what a different world. I'll add here that my hosts were Asian, and that for them it was simply perfect to invite a pooch into the restaurant. Bless their hearts.
