Whew, that mess is over. No more turkey, roast beef or hoppin' john for a long time to come.
The kitchen is coming back into a semblance of order; space is beginning to open up on the refrigerator shelves...
So what's for supper? A body's still got to eat, but it just doesn't want all that meat (or all that banging around with basters and racks and carving knives).
How about the homely, lowly macaroni and cheese?
Kevin at Seriously Good and I are teaming up in the loosest of ways on Friday, with simultaneous postings of our macky-cheese, and you're invited to join in the fun.
Fancy, plebeian, mess-hall sized or petitely portioned, it doesn't matter.
It's not a contest; it's a lifestyle choice.
We'd love to see your macaroni and cheese on Jan. 5, with the Technorati tag mac-n-cheese-off.
Get cheesy.

I had BE Peas yesterday but wasn't completely satisfied with them (someone else made them as a salad - they were good, but not my favorite), and they left me craving hoppin' john. So that's what I am making today - January 2. :-)}
Petitely portioned it shall be for us, in our combat kitchen :)
man, I am having a time catching up with all the cookiecrumb!! Cheese-off? I'm on! I think that sounds like an opportunity for the First Dinner Party of 2007!
Oh, I've been looking forward to this--but my husband and I have been laid low with stomach flu!!!! If we recover (and a gooey cheese dish seems overwhelming right now) I'll surely take part.
Dang, I can't eat cheese right now!
But I have the best recipe, evah.
Maybe I'll post it without making it. Is that allowed?
Jen: Sometimes you have to push the "reset" button. (I wonder why I don't like hoppin' john; I probably made it wrong.)
Anita: Yeah, you wouldn't want to be bangin' around in there, trying to come up with a -- cassoulet -- or something! (You *have* to post about your M*A*S*H kitchen.)
Stacie: Your guests will thank you.
Sher: Why not just cheat? We won't know if you actually ate it. Get well.
Tea: Yeah, you can cheat too. Would love to see your killer recipe.
I am ready! I got all the supplies for my 1st attempt at home made mac and cheese! Stay tuned!
Anything with cheese is always good to me.
Eeek, (you made me say eek) technorati? I've attemped that a few times in the past and MH never came up in the listings. I have my recipe and an afternoon set aside for the fun, we'll see how it comes out!
CC,
Beautiful photo, you gonna cook those things or just look at 'em?
I do note, however, you're the one who snagged Doc Biggles. Well done.
I am soooo ready to read all the recipes. This is really a treat that can't be beat. I have been guilty of scarfing my grandbabies' Kraft's and/or Amy's -- I am shameless when it comes to macandcheese. (Okay, you Greeks, give us some pastitsio -- lets hear it for colonial America's "macaroni pie"). We are in for a wild and bumptious ride and I can;t wait.
Cookie dear, I watched Frank Caliendo this week...if you don't know who he is, go to YouTube. He's the best living impressionist (I mean on stage, not on canvas), and one of his better ones is the Chimp.
As he says, "This isn't rocket surgery!"
I made a cauliflower "mac" and cheese last night out of desperation, with romanesco and multi-colored carrots that HAD to be used, and my socks are off.
I will see if I can replicate it, but as is often the case with me, beginner's luck is my forté.
XOX and happy new year to you and the hunk and the little cotton swab you call a doggie.
: D
hey there cookiecrumb, I've been checking y'all out lately and saw that thingy in conjunction with kevin about a mac-n-cheese post. when my monkey requested mac-n-cheese for lunch the other day I had to do it a little early......so this is what fell out of my head: californio mac-n-cheese. figuring on the chorizo alone, I thought you might want to take a look.....
Naaah naaah, I know what Cookie and Cranky cooked !!!
Zip it, Bigs!
(Heh. Bechamel. My ass.)
d-man: I already got a look at your fancy chorizo mac 'n' cheese today. I was going to leave you a snarky note saying you'd jumped the gun, but then I figured -- hey, the fella's just cooking a meal! And a nice looking one!! I like the theme, Rancho Hombre.
