Merry, Merry!

Panettone (Genovese-style, not baked in a flower pot), seasonal fruit, and bonus cake plate. Bought during a frenzy of Chris-sploitation shopping. Couldn't resist.
I know somebody who would really, really like this cake plate.
Do you know who you are?

See, guys, that's sort of my point. Even if you never thought you wanted a cake plate, all of a sudden you do.
I can't explain it. I don't even bake, hardly.

Sean, I've seen your noiry-irony (anagram!) dishes... This cake plate is a little more Provencal-y and rustic. Maybe too girly. So... No soup for you! I'd love to send you some fennel seeds, though, if you'll give me your address. (And I appreciate your chutzpah.) xx

Anni: This would be perfect for you. I'll tell you where I bought it if you're inclined.

Stacie: You actually could use something breadier, but I know how much a celebration dessert plate would do the trick... Hmm!!

Cake plates are wonderful and should be in everyone's cupboards. I mean, I use a glass one I adore for displaying ripe fruit in the summer, all piled up, or for stacks of things like brownies or (when I turn it upside down)as the base for a bowl that I want to elevate when I'm serving stuff buffet style, anything from antipasti to desserts. Thrift shops are great sources for this sort of old-fashioned ware. I love the look of your wholesome panettone.

happy merry and please get better!

Does it come in square? When we get servingware for our chef biz, we want square. Leaves less room for falling crumbs, and round cakes are so last century.

Happy belated Crissymas, by the way. Ours was not-so-merry so I've been remiss in my wishes for others.

Ooooooh. I think everyone needs a cake plate. That one in particular is very nice.

Happy Holidays, CC, Cranky, and Bean Sprout!

Kudzu: But it never even occurred to me to want one. As soon as I saw this one (in Larkspur), I was a goner. (The panettone is from Emporio Rulli.)

Shuna: Your pie safe is sooo beautiful. Maybe our dessert holders will elope and have gorgeous children.

Mrs D: May I be the first to say that "square" is so 2000 already? (I know. How moronic.) No, this one comes in round only; it's kinda Frenchy.
Good wishes to you; sounds like you could use some cheer. xxx

Jamie: Surely you've happened upon cake plates in your thrifting revels? Or maybe you already own one.
Happy wishes to you and S.O. and all your animals!

Square is still allowed up here. Remember, we're not up-to-date hip people like you Californians. (And a good thing too, because I could never in a million years afford to replace my friggin' plates more than once a decade.)

Mrs D: I get my square plates at Target, which we modern, hip, up-to-date Californians like to pronounce "tar-zhay." We are too cool, by far.
IDEA! We should start a dish exchange. (Anybody remember my KitchenAid exchange idea last year? When you move to a new house, you get to trade for a better color to go with your decor.)

I don't have a cake plate on a pedestal, but I do have a supercool midcentury brushed-aluminum cake carrier. I love dishes. :-)

Wow! When I saw the photo it made me think of my kitchen, which has all the same fruit but in large quantity on the counter thanks to my wife's folks and a recent x-mas visit. And then I thought about my great grandma (nana) who was from Genoa and always made panettone this time of year, only hers was done in a coffee can that had both ends cut off of it. Really, it's like you managed to take a picture of my family and send it to me without knowing. So thank you......

D-Man: That is so kind of you to say.
