Are We This Stupid?

This picture is for Sam at Becks & Posh. We've been chatting about pineapple and ham (er, well, gammon), a dreaded dish her mum used to serve, which was so salty, Sam dubbed it Salt Lumps.
Of course, the pineapple was canned. Which brings to mind pineapple upside-down cake, a dessert I'm fond of (in a remote, nostalgic way — no, really, none for me, thanks; well, maybe just one piece).
And it also brings to mind the cooking-gear catalog that came in the mail today, with this ingenious dish for correctly locating the ding-danged pineapples and cherries! As if we couldn't do it by ourselves without a sextant and a slide rule and maybe balls of string and some incantations.
No. We need a pineapple-ring—dented dish.
Cripes!
PS: Make it in a cast-iron skillet. Who cares where the pineapples end up? Odds are very high that they'll position themselves rather precisely, without indentations. And they'll get that proper caramelized color and flavor.
Hmmph.

Hello my name is Greg and I'm addicted to kitchen equipment...
I remember my first buy, a garlic press and a glass butter dish.

Funnily enough I was in the kitchen supply shop looking with incomprehension at a series of egg yolk seperators, I mean there wasn't just one there were like 4 or 5 different ones...I was tempted in a perverse way by a double action cherry and olive pitter..

Greg: I used to check the gadget drawers of prospective swains to see if they had, at the least, a garlic press. You'd have passed the test!
MG: Oh god. I have a cherry pitter. Bought it for olives, of course. Let's start blogging about our absurd purchases.
Sam: I have nothing but respect for your mum, and she knows it! :)

I actually I still love tinned fruit to this day.
Especially peaches or pear slices in natural juice.
Difficult to come by in the USA where the syrup-soaked version is more the norm.

You gotta admit that carrot salad was pretty yummy, though.

Wow, I am so tempted to own one of those pinapple location devices, just so I can make something hideously inappropriate in it, like some sort of freaky pressed meat dish.
